While feeding hermit crabs make sure to keep your food covered, lest it can get infested by pests and rodents. One best method is to store the food in air tight containers. Covering the same with plastic covers can be another alternative, feed them in little amounts in their dish with spoon or your hands, for small crabs if one decides the pallets of food, then it should better be crushed as crumbs and feed them as one feeds the bird.
